Projekt U-landshjælp til Selvhjælp PULS is a Christian NGO, which is not bound to a specific chursc. The association was established on 1992.

More than 700 people support the association. We receive financial support from members as well as from foundations and private companies.

No Danish staff receive a salary or other benefits - neither in Denmark nor during their stay in Tanzania.

The purpose of the association is to help people in developing countries, mainly in Tanzania. We support the recipients’ own efforts to improve their lives and become self-reliant. We provide support for schooling and education for the under privileged especially street children and poor young girls. The activities are accessible to all regardless of tribe or religious orientation.

The organization we work with, is an officially registered NGO in Tanzania, HELP TO SELF HELP  PROJECTS (HSH). The organization has a Board composed of well-educated Tanzanian people. The basic activity is a school for vocational training situated in Arusha, where 300 students from the poorest communities receive education for one or two years. The school has a really enthusiastic and competent leader and very talented teachers.

The school covers 3 lines of education: Household, textiles and electrical installations

In addition, students are taught health, disease prevention, childcare, family planning, AIDS prevention, maths, writing, English, accounting and Christianity. The School year ends with a National Vocationel exam (Veta).

At the school in Arusha HSH's, the following activities are administered and supported:

  • Financial support and supervision of 10 small schools for young children in the area around Arusha. The small schools are primitive, some have started under a tree or in a shed without teaching materials, and some teachers started with enthusiasm and without pay. The schools have from 50 to 140 children. Several schools also teach illiterates and women's groups.

  • Agricultural projects. Together with a talented African agronomist, we have worked on a development project in 3 villages. It has been a great success. And therefore, in 2006 we have started in 8 new villages comprising of more than 500 families. These projects are financed by the Rockwool Foundation and have now spread so much that around 2000 farmers are being trained.

  • A small agricultural college, where both education and training are provided at different levels.

  • A small mill has been built at the school in Sakina. It produces nutritious flour products mainly from Soya beans. The purpose is to improve the health among poor people by introducing them to Soya products such as Soya milk. At the same time we hope it can strengthen the financial situation of the school.

  • An organic garden has been established at the school in Sakina with the aim of providing knowledge and to inspire the students to cultivate vegetables.

  • Helping orphans to attend school and receive education. We also help poor women, who take care of orphans and other children in need of adult support, establish income-generating activities.

  • Educational activities both at the Sakina Center and in the villages. They conduct seminars against circumcision of women and the practice of forcing young girls to marry.
